Narrative
GONZALES, LA – A 90-year-old woman died Thursday from injuries sustained the day prior in a major two-vehicle crash along the highway in central Ascension Parish.
The collision occurred just after noon at the intersection of LA-74 and Chester Diez Road, which is in the city of Gonzales.
Police say that an eastbound 2014 Ford Escape rear-ended an eastbound 2012 Mazda 6 as the latter vehicle was making a right turn from LA-74 onto Chester Diez. The force of the crash pushed the Mazda into a ditch along the roadway.
A backseat passenger in the Mazda died after transport to a local hospital. Authorities identified her as Jean Ducote.
Medics also transported both drivers and one other passenger from the Mazda to the hospital. The two people from the Mazda sustained serious injuries, while the other driver’s injuries were classified as moderate.
All four people involved in the accident were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
A full investigation is underway.
